The Forth Cruising Club and I

The Forth Cruising Club and I – Al Terris

Al Terris, the author of this book, was a member of Forth Cruising Club for many years – as was his brother Ian and their father before them.  All were the Commodore of the Club at various times.  Sailing and the FCC was very special to Al and he wrote and published this book in 2000 to put on record a history of the Club from his own recollections, from stories handed down and from minutes of meetings*.   Al received lots of friendly persuasion and considerable help from former members Kenneth and Maureen Bellini with Maureen doing all the typing and editing and Kenneth remastering the old photographs and organising printing of the book.

Some of the current members are mentioned in the book including Ian, our current President and Phil, our current Commodore, both sailing at the Club since their schooldays.  Some of our members are second generation sailors and their fathers are mentioned in the book.

The book had a limited distribution when it was published but I’ve always felt it should be widely available to all club members, hence it has now been scanned and added to the website as a pdf.

I hope you enjoy it.  For those who do not know the fascinating tale of the extension to the pier with stones from “Dollytown” in Rosyth you are in for a treat.

*The handwritten minutes from 1936 to around 1990 (with a gap between 1939-1948 were typed up verbatim by Maureen and electronically recorded onto CDs. The Club holds a copy of these and are available on request and a copy was also handed into Dunfermline Library.
