“The ever lovely Christian presents me with the Bell trophy in recognition of my summer voyage to Orkney and Shetland at Forth Cruising Clubs annual dance and prize-giving on Saturday night. My five weeks voyage culminated in reaching my faraway point of Muckle Flugga lighthouse the most northerly point of the UK . Flugga sits just off the North coast of Unst the most northerly of the Shetland Isles and 170 miles further north than John o’ Groats the mainlands North point. This was my second trip to the Northern Isles and reaffirming my impression of 2015 that the the waters around and through the islands channels with their racing currents and ever changing winds make a northern voyage far more like a sailing academy than a sailing holiday. To me if its high level excitement you’re looking for you will get your fair share up here. Then there is the magic of Fair Isle , never to be missed. Head north for adventure.”
