1. RACES
Will be governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
2. COURSE
Selected from the clubs course sheet and displayed at starters box.
3. START / FINISH LINE
The start and finishing line is a line between the mast on top of the starter’s box and the outer distance mark ’O’ and is limited by an inner distance mark ’N’. Yachts must start and finish between the outer distance mark ’O’ and the inner distance mark ’N’.
4. STARTING PROCEDURE
Races will be started using the following signals:
Times shall be taken from the visual signals; the absence of a sound signal shall be disregarded.
> 5 Minutes Before The Start All lights on and one sound signal
> 4 Minutes Before the Start Two lights on and one sound signal
> 1 Minute Before the Start One light on and one sound signal
> Start All lights off and one sound signal
5. RECALLS
Rule 29 of the Racing Rules of Sailing will be changed as follows:
Individual Recall: If a yacht is over the line at the start signal, two lights will be switched on, for a period of up to 1 minute and an additional sound signal will be made.
General Recall: In the event of a general recall being necessary ALL lights will be switched on for a period of 1 minute and an additional 2 sound signals will be made. The restart procedure will commence 5 minutes after the aborted start.
6. SHORTENING the COURSE
Rule 33.2 of the Racing Rules of Sailing will be changed as follows:
If race committee signals shortened course (displays flag S with two sound signals), the finishing line shall be between buoy ‘O’ and the mast on starters box limited by the inner distance mark ‘N’, and in the direction of the course from the last mark.
7. PROPULSION
Rule 42.3(h) of the Racing Rules of Sailing, will permit the use of an engine to keep clear of shipping in the navigable channel, when insufficient wind would prevent them fulfilling their obligation, provided the yacht does not gain a significant advantage in the race.
8. POSTPONEMENT
The flag ‘Answering pennant’ and one long sound signal shall signal a postponement. Lowering the ’Answering pennant’ together with one sound signal will signal the end of the postponement. The starting sequence will commence one minute after this sound signal.
9. ABANDONING THE RACE
Before the start Flag ‘N’ flown above flag ‘A’
+ three sound signals
After races have started Flag ‘N’ Flown + three sound signals
10. TIME LIMIT
A time limit of 3 hours for the leading yacht to complete the course will apply. An extension of 30- minutes will be allowed for the remainder of the class to finish, yachts outside this period will have Deemed to have retired.
11. HANDICAPS
Handicaps may be adjusted on a regular basis in line with the rolling handicap system based on achieved performances in previous races. A list of current handicaps will be displayed on the racing notice board within the clubhouse.
12. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
a) Yacht sailors must wear a correctly fitted lifejacket or personal buoyancy aid, complying with the relevant EN standards, if IC flag ‘Y’ is displayed before the warning signal.
b) Yachts must comply with the current FYCA Safety Regulations for a Cat 4R event.
13. PROTESTS
The race officer’s attention is to be drawn to a protest flag on finishing and a written protest must be lodged with the race officer within 60 minutes of finishing the race.
